There are a few perks to being a life-long resident of Wichita that I love – my patients are my friends and neighbors, I have been a life-long supporter of the Wichita State Shockers, and I know some of the best places in our community to find a great meal and a friendly smile.
Do you know where is Harrison Ford’s favorite place to eat in New York City? Me neither! But I can tell you where his favorite place to eat is in Wichita – Chester’s Chophouse. It actually is a lot like the Star Wars Cantina he frequented as Han Solo except the food is better, they have a better wine selection and there are no bounty-hunters or strange looking aliens. (Some strange looking natives, yes!)
It has a great atmosphere nurtured by rich mahogany, oak and leather that just invites you to sit back, relax, and take your time. Each booth has a view of Beech Lake and you can enjoy your meal on their outside dining patio also.
The 1,000 bottle wine cellar has an outstanding selection to enjoy. Taste a few before you make up your mind which to enjoy with your meal or dessert.
The menu has a wide variety of starters, entrées, a fabulous raw bar and decadent desserts.
I recently enjoyed some of their delish donuts for dessert with friends. Prices generally range from $4 to $14 for starters and entrées $16 to$27.
From entry to exit this is one of the best places to eat in Wichita if you desire excellent food and excellent service. The menu has enough to please everybody in your party. Every time we are here the wait staff is impeccable. They are knowledgeable about the menu and the wine list and are competent enough to make appropriate recommendations. It is hard to find this kind of wait staff anywhere in this day and age.
There are a lot of things to love about our community (um… have I mentioned the lack of traffic in our city), but one of the things I think that gets the most overlooked are the fabulous restaurants we have here, run by people who truly love and care about their food and the people who eat it. Chester’s Chophouse definitely fits that description.
You can find it at the Waterfront in northeast Wichita – on Beech Lake, 1550 N. Webb Rd. It’s open Monday-Saturday, 4:30pm-10:00pm and Sunday, 4:30pm-9:00pm.
It’s a good idea to make reservations, especially on the weekends because tables fill up quickly. You can call (316)201-1300 to make yours.
